The Chevy Chase is a classic fell run and challenge for walkers, 20 miles into the heart of the Cheviots with 4,000 feet of accumulated climb. The route takes in the summits of Cheviot 2676 feet / 815m and Hedgehope 2348 feet / 714m, our two highest peaks.

There is a short section on road; the rest of the route is a mixture of tracks, footpaths, sheep paths and on the higher ground trackless fell. During a wet summer it can be soft underfoot! Plan your route before the event; you may choose your own path as long as manned checkpoints are visited in the correct order, please avoid out of bounds areas. N.B. None of the course is flagged this year.
Please respect our beautiful hills, leave no litter, cause no damage and enjoy.
Wooler Running Club would like to stress that the race is registered with and recognized by the Fell Runner’s Association and is subject to the association’s regulations and safety requirements. Whether entering as a walker or runner you should understand that it is a competitive event.

The terrain described above, particularly in bad weather, can be very demanding. Navigation with map and compass may become necessary for any and every competitor at any point along the route. Also a minimum of protective clothing is essential for every individual, together with some means of attracting attention.
For the above reasons EACH INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANT IS REQUIRED TO CARRY as a minimum:

1.Full windproof whole-body cover.
2.Other body cover appropriate for weather conditions.
3.Whistle.
4.Map and compass suitable for navigating the course.
5.Sufficient food and drink.
6.Basic first aid kit (optional).

There will be kit checks for all competitors prior to the start and for selected individuals at the finish. Maps, compasses and whistles will be available to purchase at registration if required.
Only those carrying the stated essentials will be allowed to start and anyone failing to present items of kit for inspection when requested WILL be disqualified. In the event of disagreement the race manager’s decision will be final. Remember these regulations apply to everyone and your cooperation will be appreciated by all.
